Lose Security options in Report manager

I have installed RS on a machine and have deployed several reports. Now when
I go into Report Manager, there is no security settings on the properties tab
- This means I am not allowed to add/edit roles or any security functions at
all. Under the properties tab, i only see a general settings which lists
modified date, modified by, creation date, and created by information for the
report. The security functions used to be there - how do i get them back?
I used the RS.EXE tool to deploy my reports to the server - Could this have
caused my problem somehow? Any help would be appreciated!If you log on from the local machine as a local machine admin you should
always have permission to set security. It is hard to say why you lost your
security, perhaps somebody else came and removed them? Does you script
attempt to modify security?

missing. I dont think the RSS file does anything with security - It is a
modified version of the sample scripts that come with RS - we just used them
to deploy our reports.

>|||Well if anyone is interested, I got all the security functionality back by
uninstalling and reinstalling reporting services. I tried rerunning my RSS
script and cannot get it to duplicate the problem i was having - Wierd, but i
guess it is fixed...

authentication, you can't publish since it's not authenticating.

Looooong Delays Connecting with Enterprise Mgr

Ever since upgrading to SQL Server 2000, connecting to the DB servers with
Enterprise Manager results in multi-minute delays while the database list
populates.
Is there something that can be done to make the connection process faster?Hi,
I think this will be the problem with one machine. Can you try with a
diffrent PC incase if it is faster then you can,
1. backup the OS login profile you are using
2. Delete the profile
3. Restore the profile back.
I had the same problem before and got solved after performing the above
steps.

problem still occurs with SQL sp3a installed.

No real difference between them -- looong delays after clicking to open the
Databases folder after connecting, regardless of which client machine or
which server I'm connecting to.
(I think I was able to reduce the delay connecting to one of the local
servers by taking most of the DBs offline.)
I suspect that SQL Server 2000 returns the stats for ALL of the DBs upon
opening the Databases folder, where SQL Server 7 didn't return the stats for
ANY of the DBs until you attempted to open the DB. 2000 lets you click
around between DBs more quickly after the DB info is returned, but this is
far inferior to the older system.

I am the IT manager for the Flemish Red Cross and I am looking for an
existing tool/product that we can use to implement a full text-search
(including webpages, Word documents and PDF's) on our new website, thta
we're building on MS CMS and SQLServer.
Any suggestions? We don't really have the time to develop something
ourselves, and I am convinced that there are existing tools or products that
can do the job.
We're willing to spend some money on it, but not in the area of 10000
USD/EUR per processor...

Looking for easy way to update w/o SQL statements

My manager is interested in knowing if there is a way to update our website's SQL database using a method with excel, similar to importing.

The person who was previously in my position had imported a few hundred new products into the database with an excel spreadsheet.

Now, we would like to make updates such as a price changes or similar adjustments to a number of the products in the database. We could use a web interface, but ours requires us to find each product individually and it takes too much time. I told him that it would probably be necessary to write an SQL statement to update the tables, but we're also interested in maintaining the integrity of the database and are worried about loosing data due to a typo. Is it possible to export the db contents to an excel file, make changes, and then merge those changes into the existing database? I have tried and failed, so I am wondering if any experienced users could help me out.

Also, is there some kind of phpmyadmin for MS SQL? Is the data fixed width or delimited?|||One of the things you need to worry about if you export your data, modify it, and then load it back into the database is whether any relational integrity is established between your table and other database tables, either logically or physically. You could potentially screw up your application if you are not carefull.

The best way to modify data is, of course, through the interface, but failing that you really need to do your modifications within SQL Server, using SQL statements. If you are going to be using a SQL Server database then you or somebody else in your office needs to learn some of the basics, and what you are trying to do is probably not very complex. I am afraid that you are going to create and very complicated and fragile solution to this problem involving mutiple steps and technologies, when the issue could be resolved easily within SQL Server.
